South Bank

The South Bank is the riverside stretch running from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge on the south side of the Thames — arguably London's single most sight-dense walk, linking major attractions with a continuous, mostly traffic-free riverside path.

What's Along the Way

Starting near Westminster Bridge: the London Eye, the Southbank Centre (concerts, free exhibitions, a busy weekend book market under Waterloo Bridge), the National Theatre, Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe, and Borough Market, before reaching Tower Bridge. It's rare to find this many major sights connected by one uninterrupted, walkable stretch.

Best Way to Experience It

Walk it end to end rather than picking one stop — the route itself, with constant river views and London's skyline across the water, is much of the appeal. Budget half a day if you want to actually go into a couple of the attractions along the way rather than just walking past them.

Getting There

Waterloo, Southwark, and London Bridge stations all sit close to different points along the walk — pick based on which end you want to start from.
