Emirates Cable Car (IFS Cloud Cable Car)
A cable car crossing the Thames between the Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks, giving aerial views over East London, Canary Wharf and the O2 Arena. It's more a transport novelty than an essential attraction, but a fun 10-minute experience if you're already in the area.
The Experience
The crossing takes about 10 minutes each way, 90 metres above the Thames at its highest point. Views take in the O2 Arena, Canary Wharf's towers and the Thames Barrier downstream. Oyster and contactless payment work at standard TfL fares — it's genuinely part of the transport network, not just a tourist ride.
Tickets
Standard single fare is the same as a bus fare with contactless/Oyster. A "round trip experience" ticket costs slightly more and includes a return crossing without needing to exit.
Getting There
Greenwich Peninsula (North Greenwich station, Jubilee line) or Royal Docks (Emirates Royal Docks DLR station).
Tips
- Sunset crossings give the best light for photos of the Canary Wharf skyline.
- It's genuinely useful transport between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks, not just a tourist novelty.
- Combine with a visit to the O2 Arena area or the Thames Barrier.
