Warner Bros. Studio Tour London — The Making of Harry Potter
The Warner Bros. Studio Tour at Leavesden is the most popular ticketed attraction in England outside London — a walk through the actual sets, props, costumes and behind-the-scenes filmmaking environments used to create all eight Harry Potter films. For fans of any age, it's an exceptional day out. It is not in London but is very easily reached from the city.
Getting There
From London Euston, Avanti West Coast trains reach Watford Junction in about 20 minutes. The Studio Tour runs a dedicated shuttle bus (about 15 minutes, bookable through the Studio Tour website) from Watford Junction directly to the entrance. Total journey time from central London: approximately 45–50 minutes each way. No car required.
What's Inside
The Great Hall set, Dumbledore's office, the Gryffindor common room, Diagon Alley (a full outdoor backlot section), Platform 9¾, the Forbidden Forest, the Hogwarts Express locomotive, thousands of original props, the full collection of creature puppets and animatronics, an enormous scale model of Hogwarts Castle (used for aerial shots), and the butterbeer café (the foam is sweet, non-alcoholic — widely reported as addictive). Regular seasonal events add themed overlays: Christmas (November–December), Dark Arts (October), Celebration of Slytherin (various) add extra content.
Tickets & Booking
Adult tickets are around £55, children (ages 3–15) around £46. Tickets must be booked in advance with a specific date and entry time — the tour does not sell walk-up tickets. Popular dates (weekends, school holidays, seasonal events) sell out weeks or months in advance. Book as early as possible.
Tips
- Book as far ahead as possible — popular weekend dates sell out months in advance.
- Allow at least 3.5 hours inside — rushing the experience is the main avoidable mistake.
- The butterbeer (in the backlot café) is worth trying at least once — it's become part of the experience.
- Seasonal events (Christmas, Dark Arts) add significant extra content and are worth choosing if available.
- Platform 9¾ photo opportunity is included — there's a professional photographer but your own camera also works.
Book directly at the official Warner Bros. Studio Tour website — third-party sellers charge significantly more.
